city tour bus-3

Since few months back, Jakarta Provincial Government has been operating five double-decker tour buses as an effort to increase tourist visit. Thus, anyone who wants to see some of Jakarta’s landmark does not have to pay a dime to get on board these buses. These buses also called as “Mpok Siti,” taken from the word “city” which pronounced locally as Siti (which also a name of woman). It is also called that because the bus driven by all female.
As for the routes passed by these double-decker tour buses are Hotel Indonesia, Jl. Jenderal Sudirman, Semanggi, Jl. Gatot Subroto, Sultan Hotel, TVRI, Mulia Hotel, Senayan Plaza, Pemuda Statue, and then return to Hotel Indonesia through Jl. Jenderal Sudirman.

How To Get On Board
This bus only stop at certain spot or to be exact at the “Bus Stop,” sign. Thus, before you can get on board, you must wait for the empty seat. All passeger must seat and no one is allowed to walk around. Usually, the bus is still empty at Monas and filled quickly at Balai Kota. This bus pass every 30 mins, Monday-Saturday at 9:00 to 19:00 and Sunday at 12:00 to 19:00 due to Car Free Day. The stop bus sign can be found at HI-Sarinah-National Museum-Santa Maria-Pasar Baru- Gedung Kesenian Jakarta-Istiqlal Mosque-Merdeka Palace-Monas-Balai Kota-Sarinah-HI.

Inside the bus, there will be a tour guide that will explain the history of the building or the street in Bahasa Indonesia or English. If you are lucky, you will get competent tour guide which speak fluently in term in knowledge and language. If you really interested to listen to the tour guide, it is better to sit at the first floor than second floor. The downside of sitting in the first floor is that it tends to make you dizzy due to the low floor. The second floor give you a better access to the scenery. One thing that I find missing from this is how they play top 40 song instead of traditional song. Come on, it is city tour bus, it should be Benyamin Sueb singing instead of Katy Perry.
