Home-cooked food always more appealing compare to others. It represents warm and familiarity. The concept of home-cooked food is what inspired Akira to make Akira Back. The chef was born in Korea but grew up in Japan and America. Akira later develop a cooking skill with influence of Mexico, Italy, and America with dominant flavors of Japanese cuisine. However, home-style menu promoted by Akira Back packed with semi-fine dining concept.
There are two large paintings which personally made by Akira to welcome you. In front of the bar, you can see a decoration of root of a tree that symbolize strong roots will grow into a big tree. The interior of the restaurant is designed with a mix of Asia, industrialist, and contemporary art. The walls shaped like a beehive. There is also window which enable you to look scenery of Jakarta.
The menu that i tried that day is tuna pizza with a sprinkle of shiso leaf. The Pizza take inspiration from the typical Italian food and mixed with tuna which represent Asian. However, the pizza have such crispness style of quesadilla. The pizza has a combination of soft and crisp in the right place. And if you pay attention more, you can taste a little bit of red onion flavor, truffle oil, and black pepper. AB Tacos from Akira Back is having a size that resemble like tapas or canapé. The taco consist of Wagyu beef with chopped jalapeno, cilantro, and tomato sauce ponzu. It creates a sweet and slighty sour taste.
And what would Japanese influence restaurant without sushi? Akira Back serves Kalbi Crispy Roll accompanied with mayo salad. For those who like fruits and booze, you might try ramen martini which made of fruits and lemon vodka. It looks colorful thanks to strawberries, apples, and other fruits. The ramen is made from vodka and gelatin. I recommed to try this menu after you have eat something as the vodka slightly strong. The side is of the ramen is chunks of tofu, which also contains vodka. The tofu slighty softer than usual tofu but still have texture.
And, what i like the most is their Jindori Chicken. This is Akira Back’s answer to old style of teriyaki. The chicken decorated with potato puree and truffle. Chicken meat tends to lose texture when put outside for too long. However, the chicken in this menu retains the texture despite being out for long. Chicken’s skin tastes delicious without burnt taste.And Akira also serve costum made order drink, as of today, i have a mixture of strawberry sorbet with lemon juice, orange, and guava.
