Inspired by the question of ‘when will you get married,’ which are always heard by those who are considered old enough to get married, but in fact do not. The film was directed by Ody C. Harahap and produced by Robert Ronny with actors such as Adinia Wirasti and Reza Rahadian. The film tells the story of Dinda (Adinia) who is bored with the question and decide the solution is to hire a fake boyfriend, Satrio (Reza Rahadian).
‘Kapan Kawin,’ presents many issues in its 114 mins duration such as idealism in the film industry, sibling rivalry, the role of parents, and of course love. Some of the issues raised are well excecuted without being judgemental. The story seems cliche, but it does not seem far-fetched. From the title, I bet all of you can guess how the ending goes but the plot make me sit still in the theater.
‘Kapan Kawin,’ is also armed with the skill and charm from its two main character, Asti and Reza are no doubt one of the best actors in Indonesia.Reza successfully build a chemistry with Asti. Reza appearance in the film is also worth waiting for. His lines were so natural. Reza and Asti also makes soap opera dialogue and acting delivered by Feby Febiola and Erwin Sutodihardjo who played the sister and brother in-laws of Dinda forgivable. Ardi Kurdi who played the father of Dinda also performed his role quite nicely. A fatherly figure with sense of humor but get serious when it is a matter of his family.
Overall, ‘Kapan Kawin,’ successfully make the audience laughed and slightly cried throughout the film. And at least, there are Indonesian filmmakers who dare to explore a simple theme (who said being simple is easy) without being too fantastical and well done to Ody C. Harahap and Robert Ronny.
