Enjoying a cup of tea is not as famous as bringing a cup of coffee. The popularity of tea is also still far from enough compared to the number of coffee shops in. Tea lovers should be just happy sitting in coffee shop while sipping a cup of tea. Tea lovers also should be just fine with the selection of teas that are always the same.
So when Alleira Group decided to make a tea shop that sells authentic Indonesian tea, it feels like ‘finally someone paid attention to tea lovers.’ Alleira Group opens its first ever tea cafe name after Gaia, The Earth Goddess in Greek mythology. This tea shop located in Kemang which already known as a hip and compact area. Entering Gaia, your eyes will wander its small but homey place with the interior dominated by natural colors and fluffy sofas. At the entrance, you will see a row of shelves that display the teas in the cans. There are also small teapot and strainer in striking neon colors.
”Normally, I will have the discussion about tea in the coffee shop but of course tea in a coffee shop is somehow feel unrelated. Thus, Gaia will serve as a base camp for tea lovers to enjoy and have a discussion about tea,”said Ratna Somantri, Gaia’s Tea Curator. Gaia only sold Indonesian Tea Specialty from tea plantations in Indonesia. This tea is usually difficult to obtain because its already purchased in big quantity by exporters.
When I arrived here, I try the Genmaicha tea which is very famous in Japan. Genmaicha is a green tea with a touch of rice. Sounds weird? Well, not exactly, this tea is very refreshing. There is also the oolong tea Halimun Mountain served with a cold brew method. Besides tea, Gaia also provide a wide range of small cakes as complementary. The cookies were served include bluder which is typical cake from Madiun area which consists of three flavors are chocolate, cheese, and raisins. Macaroon which is a typical French cake is packed with local flavor so macaroon of Gaia have a taste of black sticky rice, mango rujak, and fermented roasted cassava. Sounds a bit strange, but the flavors are amazing actually. Go taste them by yourself.
