There is a different feel when you entering Sushigroove Market located in the Mall Kota Kasablanka. The green, black, and dimly lit’s impression which usually represent Sushigroove is barely there. Yes it is still dimly lit but It has rather friendly and merrier aura, maybe it’s the color or maybe it’s the furniture. In the front, you can see giant sake barrel that usually used in ceremonies Kagami-Biraki. There are few more with smaller size inside.
Then, there are shelves displaying all kinds of snacks such as Milky Candy and some types of wafers written in kanji. There are also shelves displaying Astro Boy. The walls were painted with images related to Japan such as two women wearing kimono. The interior somehow remind you of the busy life in Tsukiji Market. Alvin Tjitrowirjo, much praised Indonesian furniture designer, involved along with Sushigroove’s management to decorate and design the place.
Aside from the atmosphere, Japanese food enthusiasts will also find a more diverse menu with more than 150 choices of food available. In total, there are 50 new food choices offered exclusively at this place. It also has a sushi belt with 40 of its own food choices. When I visited Sushigroove Market, I tried 10 kinds menu from of Groovy Items and here is my review:
1. Tori Miso Sushi
This menu is using chicken meat as topping. At a glance, it looks like nigiri. The rice looks a lil bit dark your usual sushi because it is cooked with gobo or lotus root that gives the color a bit brown.
2. Roll Crustacean
There are 4 kinds of sushi that being served in one plate. The rice was fried before being shaped. You can choose the topping based on your preferences.
4. Fiery Crab Roll
Be careful with this menu especially if you were not a fan of spicy food. This roll is filled with seashell carb and has little sliced of bird’s eye chillies in it. The sauce also slightly spicy.
5. Shiitakenoki Sake Roll
This type of sushi is the cheapest kind, rice infused gobo is topped with omelette.
8. Salmon Sushi Ball
Almost the same with Tamago just with different topping. Instead of omelette, fresh salmon is used.
9. Tuna Sushi Ball
Almost the same with Tamago just with different toppings. Burn tuna is used as the topping with a dynamite sauce. The rice is also infused with gobo
10. Bombay Norway Roll
The filling is a variety of vegatable and fish. The taste is a mix of fresh and crunchy.
As for the drink, it serves variety of beverages such as teas, smoothies, and of course sake
